Kenny Bowers on Film

Best Foot Forward

MGM produced a movie version of Best Foot Forward which was released in 1943. The film version included some of the original Broadway cast, including Kenny Bowers. Directed by Edward Buzzell and written by John Cecil Holm and Irving Brecher, the film version starred Lucille Ball as herself.

Filming for Best Foot Forward began on January 18, 1943 and was completed on March 24, 1943. The World Premiere was in New York on June 29, 1943 and the film went into general release in October, 1943.

In the book The MGM Story, author John Douglas Eames writes, “From the New York cast came young star prospects Nancy Walker, Tommy Dix, June Allyson, Kenny Bowers and Jack Jordan: June was the one destined to make it big.” Below is a still from Best Foot Forward showing Kenny Bowers with Lucille Ball.

Broadway Rhythm

Bowers next appears in the film Broadway Rhythm released by MGM in 1944. Playing the role of Ray Kent, he has several scenes which include singing, dancing, and celebrity impersonations. I'll Be Seeing You

Bowers next film appearance is in I'll Be Seeing You (1944) in which he plays a sailor on a train. This film was for Dore Schary Productions and distributed by David O. Selznick.
